December 2009

Reader-favorite Alexa Chung donned a darling skirt-and-sweater for a Teen Vogue and Louis Vuitton-hosted holiday party earlier this month. As is usually the case with Chung, it was all about the mix that made her outfit such an in-demand object of your affection. We love how the brass buttons add a military twist to her Steven Alan Etta Cardigan ($248, 212.343.0692); if you are also enamored by this piece, we suggest you slip into Juicy Couture’s Asymmetric Cadet Jacket ($298) or Forever 21’s Double Breasted Sweater Cardigan ($28) for two look-a-like options. Of course, our favorite tomboy tempered the masculine piece with Louis Vuitton’s Silk Print Skirt ($1360). If you are a fan of her flirty skirt, be sure you check out Quail’s Reversible Skirt ($175). To add a final touch of polish, Chung toted the Sofia Coppola for Louis Vuitton Suede Asphalt Bag ($3730, 866.VUITTON), which is a smart satchel selection, but Alexander Wang’s Daphne Duffel Bag ($890) is a very appealing alternative, n’est pas?

We love a bit of Alexa Chung style; her tomboy twists on girly looks, her clever way with a brogue or a ballet pump and her entirely effortless brand of red carpet dressing have all turned her into a fashion hero.

So perhaps it was no surprise that Mulberry have decided to make a bag and name it after her. Inspired by Alexa’s quirky personal style, the Alexa is an up-to-date take on the iconic Bayswater classic.
The Alexa comes in a range of different hues – the classic oak with brass hardwear (£695) will appeal to the traditionalists, while the smudgy leopard in dark oak with pale gold hardwear (£795) is one for those who love a bit of animal print. Our fave has got to be the nude-hued lambskin with snake trim (£895, pictured), a luxurious modern classic.
And Alexa is lucky enough to have her bag made in a variety of sizes so there’s one for every occasion… There’s a clutch, a roomy outsized version and the standard size which has a long, detachable strap to be worn cross-body or over the shoulder.
The one season It-bag has well and truly had its day… What we want now are modern classics that will last and last. This cool new take on a Brit classic is just the thing to update your look for 2010.

Her MTV show may have been cancelled, but Alexa Chung’s modelling career isn’t slowing down. The starlet is one of the faces of the new Spring/Summer 2010 campaign for Pepe Jeans. Photographed by Tom Munro, Alexa stars alongside male models Tom Guinness and Boyd Holbrook in the casual-meets-cool campaign. She follows in the footsteps of previous Pepe faces Ashton Kutcher and Sienna Miller.

Alexa Chung vows to stay put in New York - despite MTV axing her show
Her MTV chat show has been axed in the States but presenter Alexa Chung has no plans to quit New York - much to the chagrin of her boyfriend, Arctic Monkeys singer Alex Turner.
‘Alexa loves New York and wants to stay out there as people love her quirky Britishness,’ says a pal.

‘She is focused on making a name for herself in America and is already working on a new show with MTV that will keep her out there until at least the spring.
‘It hasn’t gone down too well with Alex, who is keen for her to return to London where he plans to work with the band on some new material.’
